Organizing My Fabric Scraps

Fabric Covered Cans

Quilt as you go - Fabric covered can

Fabric Covered Cans

This weekend I worked on organizing my fabric scraps. I hadn't bothered before because I didn't have that many. I used to put them in a large glass canister. But lately the canister was overflowing, so I decided to start dividing them by color. Last week I brought home from work a few empty large coffee cans and covered them with fabric. On the middle of the panel I used fabric scraps to represent the color fabrics I'm going to store inside and used the Quilt As You Go technique to attach the fabric pieces.
You can find my tutorial here for the basic instructions on covering cans with fabric, if you would like to make some. I really love the way they turned out and my fabric scraps are neatly organized. I still want to make a few more for other colors... I just need the people in my office to drink coffee faster :)
Have a wonderful week!

  7. These are BEAUTIFUL. So very pretty and organized (Oh, how I love organization - it makes me happy!) I agree with Chrissie - we must find some goodies to eat/drink from big tins. Hmm, now that has me thinking...

  8. So cute! I need to do something like that too. I've got a big shopping bag full of scraps that I need to tame and I've been trying to figure out what type of container would be best. This is a great idea!

  17. Martha, I just love these. And they are so beautiful that you will be able to use them for nearly anything you like when (inevitably) your scraps outgrow such little cans.
