I've been trying to organize my fabric and fabric scraps in an attempt to make use of them. I have decided not to buy any more fabric for a while and use what I already have. While I admire quilters who have an enormous collection of fabrics and sometimes I dream about having a large stash like them, in reality that just doesn't work for me. Mainly because I don't have enough storage. And the lack of storage leads to me feeling overwhelmed because of the lack of organization and fabric piled up waiting to be used.
So this is my first project in my quest to trim down my fabric stash. The scraps are the leftover pieces from my Summer Kaleidoscope Quilt. The leftover pieces were mostly half triangles so I pieced them with pieces of Kona Snow in a random pattern. And to complement with the overall improv look I quilted it with random straight lines all over. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. And it makes me think that my little experiment will work out.
Wish me luck as I resist the temptation of buying more fabric and try to be resourceful with what I already have.

Martha.
Wow!
ReplyDeleteThis a good use for your fabric scraps. I feel I need to do something with mine too.
Have a great week Martha.
I do so agree, Martha, about using what you have. I have also decided to stop buying more fabric - so I will be posting pictures this winter of projects made from what, I'm sure, other bloggers will consider "old" fabrics. It just isn't possible to buy the latest designs. Your cushion is lovely and a very original design. Lynne.
ReplyDeleteYep... I totally agree too! Let's make a mission to use what we have.
DeleteYour cushion looks great. Your quilting really makes it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the using what you have bit. I have a massive storage problem and feel overwhelmed by the "small" amount of fabric that I have (very small compared to most I have seen in blogland). Although I did just buy some new fabric yesterday, but that's because I got given a voucher for my birthday and I have a specific idea in mind and I now have a working sewing machine again (YAY!) Today was my first day sewing on a machine in about 6 months :) But in general I want to use more of what I have already.
Another pretty finish : )
ReplyDeleteI have quite the stash, but I work in a quilt shoppe so I acquire quite a bit. I do use it however and I love scrap quilts.
I love those colors! This is a wonderful idea and I hope you stay with it. Just Imagine all the beautiful things you'll have when done. When the cupboards are bare...what fun, filling it back up!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about piles calling my name....
Hugs, susie
this is so pretty. I am having a hard time seeing how you managed to piece all those triangle scraps together, but it is a super effective look - and the straight line quilting really finishes it off well. Beautiful and summery :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat design! I love the idea of not to expand the stash but never can resist buying something new, they keep coming up with great prints every month!
ReplyDeleteYour pillow is beautiful! I love improv piecing! I, too, have been trying to make lots of quilts out of my stash and I have really enjoyed doing that.
ReplyDeleteYour pillow is beautiful. I think using up fabric before buying lots more is a great idea and leads and leads to more creativity :)
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful style and colours and good idea to use up fabric that you have! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the pillow as well as the coordinating quilt you made.
ReplyDeleteSaw your project @ New to Me -- those are beautiful fabrics, and they made a gorgeous pillow :) Good luck with your stash/scrap reduction plan - it's hard to say no to fabrics sometimes, especially when they're on sale! I struggle with that myself :D I do love to sew with scraps - to me, they're eye candy :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a very clever way to use your leftover pieces from another project! Great improv Martha!
ReplyDeleteSo very pretty, a great way to use up scraps.
